Nick is a qualified registered architect with experience of working in local and London practices, set up his own practice in 1977. Since then he has worked on and completed many projects in a variety of building genres including housing, offices, educational buildings in schools and university, recreational buildings, arts projects including galleries, art teaching spaces and outdoor theatres, and he has had some success in national architectural competitions as winner and runner-up.
He specializes in producing carefully designed and crafted buildings often using local craftsmen and materials. Projects often involve finding imaginative ways of respecting and working with older buildings. In these and other ways he is very sympathetic to a sustainability agenda.
Nick has a particular specialism in the way people use and experience space, has an MA in Dance Studies and lectures in these subjects at the University of Plymouth School of Architecture and as a visiting lecturer at Laban, (professional contemporary dance school) in London.
As a practising architect, Nick is very keen on a collaborative approach in which clients are fully involved in the design process and in which development models and perspective visualizations are used as part of an ongoing dialogue.
